Frequently Asked Questions

Montem specializes in high quality gear at an affordable price. With thousands of 5-star reviews, dozens of #1 rankings, and numerous awards, the verdict is in. Montem is better than the competition at 1/2 the price.

Montem poles have been unanimously ranked above primary trekking pole companies such as Black Diamond and Leki. How, you ask? No middle men, no mark ups, no hidden fees. We take pride in devoting our time, effort, and passion to designing the highest quality gear we can while doing everything in our power to keep the price down.

We do this by limiting marketing expenses, minimizing website costs. We DO NOT cut costs on the actual product, which is exactly why we've been called the premier pole on the market.

The design, functionality, and quality is stellar. Simply put, we keep our prices low by not wasting money on what "the other guys" do.

It's super easy! Simply adjust your arms so that they’re at a 90 degree angle while using your Montem Trekking Poles. When adjusting the height of the poles, make sure the number on the top segment of the pole is the same as the one on the bottom.

Flip open the clasp, then proceed to make 1/4 turn adjustments to the screw until you get the desired tension. The bolt should be tight enough that when you close the clasp the pole supports your weight without sliding.

Yes! To adjust the length of the strap pull the tension block out. Once the tension block is removed, you may pull the loose end to tighten the strap, or pull the upper end to loosen the strap.

The only Trekking Poles you will need. My husband and I purchased these trekking poles for our 50 mile (4days/3nights) backpacking adventure in September, I wasn't sure if we needed them but, man am I glad we had them, I'll never leave them behind. I love that they collapse into a smaller size but, what I love the most is that they are durable. We had some pretty rough terrain, with major inclines and declines, I used these poles for constant support and they withstood a lot of weight between my weight of 140lbs and the additional weight of my pack of 25 lbs, these poles did an amazing job and saved a lot of wear and tear on my knees. We are so pleased with these poles and would highly recommend them to any serious hiker.

Better stability than a cane. More mobility than a wheelchair. Instead of a cane, I use it for daily walking.

A must have! The custom length on these poles are phenomenal. They were very durable. I was extremely skeptical about it at first because it’s a two screw adjustment poles; therefore, I thought it will have difficult upholding large force. I was proven wrong. Love them, they helped a lot on my hike! I was on a super rocky trail and it saved me a couple times from slipping. Love the fact that you can retract it and leave it in a small compartment in my car.

Worked well during recent deer hunt in steep terrain! Very impressed with locking adjustments! Excellent product overall!!

I finally decided to get a pair of trekking poles to help in my old age. Just returned from a short backpacking trip to Sequoia in a very remote area requiring a lot of cross country hiking. Although I have never used poles before, they really helped going up or down in steep locations. Also a good price.

  6. John

Been to a lot of places with these, would highly recommend. I tend to over research and I picked these, very happy I did! Make the purchase.

  7. happy

    easy to adjust. No slipping.

  8. Katie L

Bought these for a trip to Spain in early September where I knew I wanted to do a lot of walking. I’d broken my leg in April and lost a considerable amount of strength in my knee. Physical therapy helped get me walking again, but I wanted something to help with endurance and stability on uneven streets and hills. These walking sticks were perfect. I was able to do far more walking with them than I could have otherwise and they were easy to transport. When we’d stop for lunch or dinner, I’d collapse them and store them under my chair, out of the way. When it was time to leave, it was super easy to extend them back to the right height and head out. I do suggest practicing with them a bit if you plan to use them for a trip. The tightening mechanism (the little clear screw on the side) can take some getting used to and can loosen over time if you’re collapsing them often. As a result, one of the sticks partially collapsed while I was walking. This was user error, though, and easy to fix, but why I recommend practicing with them if you’re planning on using them on a trip. You do have to check the bag you transport them in if you’re flying. I found they fit diagonally in a 24” suitcase just fine and they discouraged me from overpacking, which I appreciated. My traveling companions tried them out and all said seeing them in use made them want to get a pair, even with two healthy knees! A great bargain for casual use and those looking for a bit of help with stability and endurance.

I like how easy these things are to set up and adjust on the trail

I have used the Montem Ultra Strong trekking poles for over a year now and love them. The thumb screws took a little bit to get used to (how much to tighten before flip locks don't work, adjustment for optimal length, etc.). However, these poles work GREAT! I never felt unsteady ascending or descending, crossing shallow brooks/streams, etc. The EVA foam handles are not uncomfortable, nor are the straps. Poles can be reduced down to packable length fairly quickly; getting them to useable length takes slightly more time (a little trial and error). I would recommend marking/scoring each pole when your optimal length is found to allow for quicker set up (read: less trial and error to get it exactly right ... unless you can remember the length settings). Straps to the outside of my backpack with no problems. Comes in a variety of colors. I love these poles so much I bought my older Scout a pair and will be buying my younger Scout a pair soon!

Finally, an affordable carbon pole. Montem answers the most common gripe-price-with this sub-$80 offering that performs like it costs twice as much.
