Frequently Asked Questions

Montem specializes in high quality gear at an affordable price. With thousands of 5-star reviews, dozens of #1 rankings, and numerous awards, the verdict is in. Montem is better than the competition at 1/2 the price.

Montem poles have been unanimously ranked above primary trekking pole companies such as Black Diamond and Leki. How, you ask? No middle men, no mark ups, no hidden fees. We take pride in devoting our time, effort, and passion to designing the highest quality gear we can while doing everything in our power to keep the price down.

We do this by limiting marketing expenses, minimizing website costs. We DO NOT cut costs on the actual product, which is exactly why we've been called the premier pole on the market.

The design, functionality, and quality is stellar. Simply put, we keep our prices low by not wasting money on what "the other guys" do.

It's super easy! Simply adjust your arms so that they’re at a 90 degree angle while using your Montem Trekking Poles. When adjusting the height of the poles, make sure the number on the top segment of the pole is the same as the one on the bottom.

Flip open the clasp, then proceed to make 1/4 turn adjustments to the screw until you get the desired tension. The bolt should be tight enough that when you close the clasp the pole supports your weight without sliding.

Yes! To adjust the length of the strap pull the tension block out. Once the tension block is removed, you may pull the loose end to tighten the strap, or pull the upper end to loosen the strap.

Excellent product anti shock works flawlessly. But even better is their customer service one of my wrist straps tore. And they sent me a new pair of poles!!!! Can’t wait to try out there updated rain jacket. A big shout out to Sheldon Wong at montemlife your professionalism is unsurpassed

  2. Scott Thomas

I'm torn on the rating, I'd say 3.5 stars, they are nice poles but the "anti-shock" is almost useless. I paid extra for the anti-shock to reduce vibration to my injured arm, but while these do have a spring shock mechanism in them, it doesn't reduce any of the vibration going to your hands, the springs are too tight. I thought over time they would soften up, but they haven't. My wife has the standard Montem poles and when I use hers I feel no difference on my hands from these. I do like the cork handles better than the foam. They are nice poles, but I wouldn't pay extra for the anti-shock.

I purchased the Montem shock absorbing trekking poles for a backpacking trip this past weekend. I wanted the most cost-effective yet highly-rated poles I could find, and these poles hit both marks. They were highly-rated among several lists online, the price was good (due to direct to consumer sales), and the President's Day sale coupon cinched the deal. The poles did GREAT on the trail which was rocky, mountainous and lots of stream crossings. The length markers on the poles made it super easy to adjust them to the exact length. The shock absorbing feature was ESSENTIAL! Thanks for making a great, yet affordable set of trekking poles!

  4. Phil

I just completed a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. I used these poles the entire way and were extremely happy with them. They are fairly light, comfortable on the hands with the cork and adjustable for any height. I'm 6'2" and they were perfect. They collapse too so when I stopped in town they could store easier. The only problems I had were with the negative effects of weather. After 4 months of hiking daily the rain, sweat and constant moisture rusted the pins that secure the pole when you extend it to your desired height. They made it the entire 2,200 miles but I had to jerry-rig them for the last 200 miles. I also had one of the carbide tips fall out somewhere around 1,800 miles in. All around though, they are much more durable than the lightweight poles on the market that thru hikers drool over. Can't tell you how many times I saw people with trekking pole issues after spending upwards of $150 on a set. The price is perfect here and I just bought my second set.

Took them on first hike--at quick 1 mile or so. Once I got the adjustment to the height figured out, all was good. It helped with the shock factor. I cannot wait for longer hikes.

  6. Kyra

All of the works and then some. Anti-shock, cork grips, and on the Ultra Strong model. Excellent poles.

Finally, an affordable carbon pole. Montem answers the most common gripe-price-with this sub-$80 offering that performs like it costs twice as much.
