Good experience on first outing with these poles.

Spent a long day in the mountains just north of our little town in south central Alaska. The poles greatly helped this senior hiker keeping up with several young friends. Steep trail, some slick mud, scree fields, creek crossings, and a bit of glacier. The poles helped my balance on sidehills and rock piles and the ability to easily adjust poles length was a great asset. Lost one pole basket; replaced it with a goat vertebrae!

Sure came in handy when my back went out

I haven't gone on any long hikes yet but I did manage to throw my back out loading 50 pound bags of Quikrete cement at Lowes on Wednesday, 6-14-2023. I ordered a back brace from Amazon. These trekking poles were very helpful in getting around the house. 24 hours later I'm feeling better but won't attempt to deal with the cement until the back brace comes in. My neighbor may have suffered a stroke. He's using a walker and I'm tempted to mention these trekking poles to him as an alternative to his walker.

Excellent Function, Questionable Durability, Excellent Customer Service

I'm happy with the weight, feel, and ease-of-use of these poles.

I'm not so sure about the durability. On my first outing, the tip of one of the poles broke off. Montem said that was NOT typical and quickly sent me a replacement pair.

On a 90-mile hike of the Appalachian Trial NOBO through MA (CT to VT), the plastic locking nut on the adjustment lever proved to be a weak point. One fell apart and broke off. A second cracked. (There are 4 in a pair of poles). I had to resort to duct tape (fixing one of the pole segments) to finish the hike.

Once again Montem Customer Service was responsive. Unfortunately they don't have any replacement locking nuts, so they mailed me another set of poles. CRAZY. And actually not very helpful for field failures - I want a small supply of locking nuts with me so I don't have to duct tape in the field. So, I went and found that a 5mm wing nut (see photo) seems to work well as a replacement, though I haven't yet tested it in the field to confirm that it will not loosen up during heavy use.

    Love My tracking polls!

My tracking polls! I went hiking in Pennsylvania on a trail that was steep and muddy. The polls give me good balance especially climbing over fallen trees. I am older gentleman and often trip over unlevel ground. But with these polls I was much more confident. Thank you so much for a great quality item!
    Thanks Rex D.

Not bad but things to know

Just took them out for first time red river gorge. They were easy to adjust to desirable size.. The hand straps are a work in progress. Still trying to d
Figure out how to keep them my desirable tightness around my wrist. Keep loosing up as i go. But my problem that i have with them is that i lost my mud basket on one of the 3 mile into my hike. Other one was loose. Tighten back up next stop was loose again. Tighten up again and the seem to finally stopped spinning loose. If i could go back i would have lock tighten them or even superglued them on tight. I do like the feel of them. The price wasn't too bad. I feel it's a good product, but i wish i would have glued or checked more oven on the mudbaskets.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Trekking Poles

Why are Montem trekking poles better than "the other guys"?

Montem specializes in high quality gear at an affordable price. With thousands of 5-star reviews, dozens of #1 rankings, and numerous awards, the verdict is in. Montem is better than the competition at 1/2 the price.

Montem poles have been unanimously ranked above primary trekking pole companies such as Black Diamond and Leki. How, you ask? No middle men, no mark ups, no hidden fees. We take pride in devoting our time, effort, and passion to designing the highest quality gear we can while doing everything in our power to keep the price down.

We do this by limiting marketing expenses, minimizing website costs. We DO NOT cut costs on the actual product, which is exactly why we've been called the premier pole on the market.

The design, functionality, and quality is stellar. Simply put, we keep our prices low by not wasting money on what "the other guys" do.

Are Montem trekking poles easy to adjust? If so, how?

It's super easy! Simply adjust your arms so that they’re at a 90 degree angle while using your Montem Trekking Poles. When adjusting the height of the poles, make sure the number on the top segment of the pole is the same as the one on the bottom.

Flip open the clasp, then proceed to make 1/4 turn adjustments to the screw until you get the desired tension. The bolt should be tight enough that when you close the clasp the pole supports your weight without sliding.

    Is the wrist strap adjustable?

Yes! To adjust the length of the strap pull the tension block out. Once the tension block is removed, you may pull the loose end to tighten the strap, or pull the upper end to loosen the strap.

    WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS ARE SAYING
