Frequently Asked Questions

Montem specializes in high quality gear at an affordable price. With thousands of 5-star reviews, dozens of #1 rankings, and numerous awards, the verdict is in. Montem is better than the competition at 1/2 the price.

Montem poles have been unanimously ranked above primary trekking pole companies such as Black Diamond and Leki. How, you ask? No middle men, no mark ups, no hidden fees. We take pride in devoting our time, effort, and passion to designing the highest quality gear we can while doing everything in our power to keep the price down.

We do this by limiting marketing expenses, minimizing website costs. We DO NOT cut costs on the actual product, which is exactly why we've been called the premier pole on the market.

The design, functionality, and quality is stellar. Simply put, we keep our prices low by not wasting money on what "the other guys" do.

It's super easy! Simply adjust your arms so that they’re at a 90 degree angle while using your Montem Trekking Poles. When adjusting the height of the poles, make sure the number on the top segment of the pole is the same as the one on the bottom.

Flip open the clasp, then proceed to make 1/4 turn adjustments to the screw until you get the desired tension. The bolt should be tight enough that when you close the clasp the pole supports your weight without sliding.

Yes! To adjust the length of the strap pull the tension block out. Once the tension block is removed, you may pull the loose end to tighten the strap, or pull the upper end to loosen the strap.

total game changer. I love hiking now.

  2. nhsatomom

I purchased these poles to use on my daily hikes up and down a paved mountain road with some very steep inclines. The conditions vary from just a skim coat of ice on the pavement to feet of snow. I've only used the poles in icy conditions so far and they've performed like a champ, giving me stability without carrying extra weight, and easy switching between the basic rubber tips to the carbide tips on the fly, as conditions change during my hikes. I hike with a dog on leash in one hand and one trekking pole in the other and the pole has definitely helped me avoid some nasty spills so far. The only negative -- and it's a really small one -- is that there's a soft pad sewn into the inside of the wrist strap, meant to make it more comfortable against the skin. But the sewn corner of that pad is rough and bothered my hand when I wasn't wearing gloves. Problem solved by turning the strap inside out.

I was worried that they wouldn't keep the size adjustment if you put your weight on the poles, but they don't. I weight ~175 lbs and haven't noticed the size change as I hike even some of the hardest hikes. The colors are all vibrant and nice and they can shorten enough that you can keep in a hiking pack easily. They are also lightweight and the grips are comfortable. I only have used to end tip that came with them, but that does a good enough job for all the hikes I've done.

  4. KRinBoston

Ordered this for low impact hiking. I have vertigo and using these has made my hiking experience so much more enjoyable.

  5. Terry

These poles will not let you down. Comfy, sturdy, and light. A great combination of all three. Not to light to be unstable. Great tips. Secure camming action.

  6. A

Really great hiking poles, especially for the price. Had these about 2 years, using them every few months for my more intense hikes. One had its latch thing crack recently and started to slip when I put weight on it stepping down, etc. Messages the company and after sending them a photo of it they sent me a replacement pole. Would recommend, especially since the company followed through with their warranty. Thanks!

  7. A C

Great for trail. Amazing value. Excellent poles and very lightweight. I’m 260lbs of love and these hold my life up with no problem allowing me to have good times with my family before I gain another hundred lbs.

  8. WS

Great sticks for the money! All features as advertised.

  9. jdock

Super lightweight. Easy enough to adjust and there are length markings to help you match them exactly. Very pretty design and the cork is pleasant to the touch. The rubber covers that go over the sharp tips have not yet worn down, which is good. These held my weight (145 lbs) up and down the main portion of Angel’s Landing in Zion. My only complaint is that the handle straps aren’t super easy to adjust and the padded portion is located such that if you’re placing your weight on them, your thumbs are on the un-padded portion and can get kind of chaffed.

  10. misharens

Saved me from falling down a few rocky slopes. Took these on a backpacking trip last month and was very pleased with their performance. I love the snap lock feature--my old ones twist locked and were always collapsing down while I was hiking. Lightweight and sturdy.

Finally, an affordable carbon pole. Montem answers the most common gripe-price-with this sub-$80 offering that performs like it costs twice as much.

After about 40 hours of testing on trails, streets, beaches, and many places in between—including extensive handling and testing in a physical-therapy office, among therapists, nurses, patients, and doctors in an orthopedic group—we’ve determined that the Montem Ultra Strong Trekking Poles are the best for nearly everyone. They’re simple to set up and use, comfortable, and ready to take a beating. Also, they’re a bargain.
