Frequently Asked Questions

Montem specializes in high quality gear at an affordable price. With thousands of 5-star reviews, dozens of #1 rankings, and numerous awards, the verdict is in. Montem is better than the competition at 1/2 the price.

Montem poles have been unanimously ranked above primary trekking pole companies such as Black Diamond and Leki. How, you ask? No middle men, no mark ups, no hidden fees. We take pride in devoting our time, effort, and passion to designing the highest quality gear we can while doing everything in our power to keep the price down.

We do this by limiting marketing expenses, minimizing website costs. We DO NOT cut costs on the actual product, which is exactly why we've been called the premier pole on the market.

The design, functionality, and quality is stellar. Simply put, we keep our prices low by not wasting money on what "the other guys" do.

It's super easy! Simply adjust your arms so that they’re at a 90 degree angle while using your Montem Trekking Poles. When adjusting the height of the poles, make sure the number on the top segment of the pole is the same as the one on the bottom.

Flip open the clasp, then proceed to make 1/4 turn adjustments to the screw until you get the desired tension. The bolt should be tight enough that when you close the clasp the pole supports your weight without sliding.

Yes! To adjust the length of the strap pull the tension block out. Once the tension block is removed, you may pull the loose end to tighten the strap, or pull the upper end to loosen the strap.

  1. Schmax

could not have been easier to use the strap adjustment seemed to be stubborn to open and adjust for your hand the strap required a pretty strong pull - probably will become easier after multiple uses locking system very easy to adjust to your height in summary a very good pair of walking/hiking poles

  2. Zach Thompson

I have done a ton of hiking and backpacking, but have never used trekking poles before. We hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back out all in one day (18 miles) last week. These poles were awesome. They were helpful going down the steep grade, and were a lifesaver climbing back up. I highly recommend you get a pair for any of your hiking adventures!

  3. Rod Kesling

Had these for a month now, with four hikes each about 7 miles and roughly 3500' of rocky uphill climbing. The poles have been great. Easy to pull out and adjust to length, lightweight enough, and the handles have worked with my sweaty hands. Great value!

  4. Veronica S.

I love these poles. I have issues with my hands and they are very easy to adjust and to hold.

  5. Ingrid Reynolds

First timers buying poles and wow, what a difference! These poles are incredibly light weight and the clips holding them in place, super strong. Didn't have any slippage on several fairly demanding and rocky hikes and the maneuverability was outstanding. Had some minor issues with one daypack in order and customer service (Sheldon W) was incredibly responsive and remedied the problem immediately. Could not recommend company or product more highly !

  6. Darren P.

Work great and fits all sizes and is light. The only negative is you can't just tighten by hand as it loosens over time. Take a screwdriver to tighten more vdefinitely

  7. Bonnie

Loved these for 2.5 years. The plastic nut is cracking off and the 'rod' to the cam (looks like a nail) is slipping out. I hammered them back in. Otherwise, have enjoyed these poles.

  8. Bonnie Vanek

I've used these, ultra strong, for two years. Like them a lot. Very sturdy. Gives peace of mind on the trail; love the cork grips. Recently, the plastic nuts are now cracking off. The pinion to the cam is slipping out (looks like a nail). I hammered it back. Looking for new poles---will try something different this time.

  9. A. C.

sent these to my son to use while we were vacationing and hiking in his area since you can’t take trekking poles on a plane. They worked great. It took a few times to make sure I had them adjusted right and the tension lever was down. It slipped a couple of times at first but after working with it, It was very sturdy. Great price to just leave a set of poles in another destination if you know your going to need them. Cheaper than sending a pair back and forth.

  10. Maker of things

Outstanding value. High standard of construction, very sturdy. I weigh in at 320 pounds, and I use these to save my knees on downhill slopes. I've had other poles I didn't feel safe with- these are really sturdy, and being aluminum I have no concerns about sudden catastrophic failure despite my weight.

Finally, an affordable carbon pole. Montem answers the most common gripe-price-with this sub-$80 offering that performs like it costs twice as much.
