Frequently Asked Questions

Montem specializes in high quality gear at an affordable price. With thousands of 5-star reviews, dozens of #1 rankings, and numerous awards, the verdict is in. Montem is better than the competition at 1/2 the price.

Montem poles have been unanimously ranked above primary trekking pole companies such as Black Diamond and Leki. How, you ask? No middle men, no mark ups, no hidden fees. We take pride in devoting our time, effort, and passion to designing the highest quality gear we can while doing everything in our power to keep the price down.

We do this by limiting marketing expenses, minimizing website costs. We DO NOT cut costs on the actual product, which is exactly why we've been called the premier pole on the market.

The design, functionality, and quality is stellar. Simply put, we keep our prices low by not wasting money on what "the other guys" do.

It's super easy! Simply adjust your arms so that they’re at a 90 degree angle while using your Montem Trekking Poles. When adjusting the height of the poles, make sure the number on the top segment of the pole is the same as the one on the bottom.

Flip open the clasp, then proceed to make 1/4 turn adjustments to the screw until you get the desired tension. The bolt should be tight enough that when you close the clasp the pole supports your weight without sliding.

Yes! To adjust the length of the strap pull the tension block out. Once the tension block is removed, you may pull the loose end to tighten the strap, or pull the upper end to loosen the strap.

They conveniently collapsed and fit into the side pocket of our travel bag. Sturdy, light and locked in tight for reliable hiking poles. Great buy for the price.

This is my second pair of these Montem Ultralight Carbon Fiber Hiking Poles and I like them a lot. They are extremely lightweight, the length is super easy to adjust as is the suspension for the length adjustment. I hike a lot and use a Trecking poles all the time. Most Trecking poles bend after years of use or the length adjustment doesn't work after a while. So far they are excellent.

I never used trekking poles before now. Spent the summer in the Catskills in NY. Great hiking trails but a lot of steep ups and downs combined with rocks and mud. After slipping and sliding on a few five mile hikes, a friend suggested trekking poles. After much research I decided on the Montem Ultralights. MAJOR GAME CHANGER. The first time I used them I was amazed at how much they helped on steep ascents and especially on steep descents. The poles are very lightweight, adjust easily, and have a comfortable grip. I'm 6'1" and 220 lbs. and they performed flawlessly. Made me feel like a mountain goat.

I used these poles in the Grand Canyon, more often than not they were great! Although after a while of walking with them, it grew frustrating because they would slowly change size. I tried to tighten them but it kept happening. Although they saved me during a 20 mile hike, I was disappointed the size kept changing.

I just returned from my trip to the Galapagos. They were wonderful! I walked on slippery lava rocks, up and down volcanos, on sandy beaches., etc. The sticks never failed me and even saved me from several potential nasty falls. Many thanks!

Light, versatile, and functional. I read about these in the recent gear guide and picked them up. Functionality is through the roof, they're sturdier than other brands I've sworn by for years. Montem's carbon poles are my new go to. Excellent poles for beginner to advanced hikers

Bought this after reading some very good reviews on the internet. Used it for the first time last Sunday. Initial impressions were excellent. Extremely lightweight, lighter than what my Friend was using. The poles were strong and provided the much needed support as I hike up and down the track.

Must have for hiking. Very helpful for support during. The path I the mountain might be very difficult to go so the sticks help a lot. I like the material of it, carbon make it quite light so it's comfortable to handle them during the trip

Carbon sticks for tracking are very good and light. Very helpful in walking. When you do not use these sticks, then there is a storage case in the kit.

I purchased a pair of the ultra light carbon fiber poles. I have taken them on two backpacking trips on the Appalachian Trail, and I am very pleased with the performance of this purchase. The locking mechanisms never slipped, and I was not gentle with them on my hikes. These trekking poles performed as advertised, and I would recommend them to others. The price point can not be beat when compared with other top brands.

Great poles. Super light and very sturdy!!! Can't beat the quality and one would expect these to cost alot more. Very satisfied with these!!

I'm writing this review as a thank you to this company for making such an excellent set of trekking poles and providing them at a cost well below what they are worth. I just returned from an extremely brutal hike to get ready for archery season and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that I honestly would have been in trouble if not for these poles. They kept me going. I reached a point where I was so exhausted that they became more of a set of crutches than trekking poles. I am a large guy at 235 pounds and these trekking poles supported every single pound of me and my gear for over 8 miles when my legs were in more pain than I ever want to experience again. I'd gladly purchase another set of these at twice the cost. Thank you.

If your worried about buying these poles from a new "start-up" company - DON'T BE. These are the highest quality ultra lightweight poles I have ever purchased. Outstanding from top to bottom. Clamps & bolts are super strong, easy to adjust and stay exactly where you put them. Would definitely buy again.

We tried our carbon fiber poles hiking in Shenandoah NP for a week. Various hikes, 5 to 6 miles a day, down to many waterfalls and up to the top of the mountains and along the Appalachian Trail. The poles made these strenuous hikes easier. Lightweight with comfortable grips; my knees thank you!

  34. Lynny

Light and easy to pack trekking poles. The locks work properly and I experienced no slippage. A great set of lightweight trekking poles. I highly recommend them.

I have finally found a nice and light pair of carbon fiber poles. The poles easily collapse and they lock in seconds. The foam hand grips are very comfortable as well. The foam hand grips were great on a recent 37 mile hike with my husband. The wrist was also soft on the side and comfortable around my wrist. They are great and I have had zero issues with them.

  36. Demian

Enjoyed the weight and durability of them. Def put them through a beating this past weekend on the Devil's Path in the Catskills. The foam grips kept my hands dry and were easy to grip.

I love hiking but unfortunately I got into a car accident a while back and was on a wheel chair for almost a year. Finally after extensive physical therapies, the doctor said I can go do some light hiking. But only if I used trekking poles. I wanted something light, yet sturdy and these were perfect. Can hardly notice that I was using them most of the time. It's like a second set of hands. Almost stabbed myself trying to swat a fly though because I'm clumsy like that. Anyways these are great and I'll recommend them to everyone. Disabled or not!

I bought these poles to make my way up to the peak of Mt. Rainier and boy did they come in handy! I'm glad I made the investment for that 3 day outdoor adventure and my knees are really glad too. They fold up and fold down, weigh as light as a feather (not really but carbon fiber is really light!), and also had really comfortable hand grips.

  40. Paul

    Rated 5 out of 5

In a second they can be adjusted quickly on the fly to transition from uphill / downhill. These poles are lightweight, adjustable, comfortable and durable!

Hiking is tough especially for a newbie like me. My friends invited me to a day hike and I had a pretty decent time last time so I said why the heck not. My friends wanted to try a more intermediate trek so I decided to play it safe and take on the trip a pair of hiking poles. My avid hikers swear by trekking poles and proclaim to the high heavens how advantageous it is to have them. I wanted something that was light and sturdy. And viola; Montem's carbon fiber trekking poles. I was gonna go for their base model but the carbon fiber was at a price that was too good to pass up. It's like paying an additional 10 dollars for that extra 16 gigs of storage on your iPhone (never again)! I've seen a few Carbon fiber poles on Amazon but not at this competitive price. The hiking trip turned out to be pretty speculator. The weight of the poles were negligible when I used them. There was one point when I wasn't looking where I was walking and stumbled over some rocks. Luckily I was able to quickly brace myself with the poles and didn't fall flat on my face. The hike was a good 16 miles and the carbon fiber poles held up fine. No bends or warps. For this price, you can't really beat the quality especially if you're a novice like me.

I took my carbon fiber pole on a three day hike in the Rocky Mountains and they performed great in all kinds of terrain. I made sure the locks were tightened properly and went on my hikes. I like that these are super light and very adjustable. They are also priced fairly.

I purchased these poles over the weekend and took them to the blue hills in bean town (Boston). I was amazed at how light and sturdy these poles are. They made such a difference on my hike since the trail had a lot of ups and downs. I ended up doing 6 miles that day and never felt better. The grips are also super comfortable and kept my hands nice and dry.

  44. Garett

    Rated 5 out of 5

Had aluminum poles for a while and decided to upgrade to the carbon fiber. You feel the difference immediately, 25% lighter, but just as sturdy. A couple of ounces may not seem like a lot, but after hiking 10-18 miles a day for a couple of days straight, you definitely notice the difference.

  53. CK

Very impressed so far!! Very light and the adjusters are solid and when locked support my 200 pounds. Used on just one hike and performed as promised. Grips are good size and well molded in cork. Loops are good size and adjustable for winter gloves and summer no gloves. Very good product at a great price. Hope they are as durable as they appear and will perform for many years.

I am so happy with these poles. They are so much lighter to carry than my Leki poles, but there is no difference in performance. I hope you come out with more colors!

I just got the chance to test out my new trekking poles on El Cajon Mtn a little while ago. They performed great and I was happy to have the adjustable length between uphill and downhill. Very lightweight and easy to collapse to put in my pack. Top notch!

These trekking poles saved me from unnecessary strain, scraped knees from slipping, and twisted ankles from awkward weight placement.

  57. Anthony C.

Have used a single Leki pole for years and wasn't sure if I wanted to try two or not. Found these poles. Not only are they a great price, they have a perfect five star rating! Nothing gets a perfect score! There's always some yahoo that doesn't like the color, the smell or something. But these are really fantastic! Combined they weigh just about the same as my old Leki. The cork grips are very comfortable. Much more so than the grip on my old pole. Highly recommend!
